Tony Romo: DeMarco Murray Asked Me To Pay Cut

Tony Romo

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo wasn’t quiet about his desire for Jerry Jones to re-sign running back DeMarco Murray.

The signal caller knew of his importance and vocally vented his desire to keep his teammate in Big D. More importantly, he was willing to put his money where his mouth was because Tony Romo says he was willing to take a pay cut to keep DeMarco Murray from leaving in free agency.

How do we know? Because Tony Romo says DeMarco Murray asked him to take a pay cut.

“DeMarco ended up asking me, ‘Why don’t you take a pay cut?’ I said, ‘I will. I would take a pay cut to go do this,'” Romo said. “I was like, ‘They’re going to restructure me.’ That’s the same thing in some ways, just for the salary cap purposes. He was like, ‘OK, now we’re back to being friends again.’ I would take $5 million less if meant getting him back.”

It’s a little odd for a player to ask another player to take less money, but it shows what kind of teammate Tony Romo is.

Of course, in the end, it didn’t really help because Murray ended up signing with the rival Philadelphia Eagles, but it seems evident both players wanted to make things work out in Dallas.
