Saints GM: Drew Brees Not On Trade Block

Drew Brees

After sending Jimmy Graham to the Seattle Seahawks and cutting ties with other talent, it seems safe the say the New Orleans Saints are in the midst of a rebuilding project. Of course, Saints general manager Mickey Loomis disagrees and would suggest it’s more of a retooling process.

Whatever the case, the Saints don’t look as good on paper as they did and many have thought Drew Brees, who is on the downside of his career, could be on his way out as well.

That isn’t the case according to Loomis though who says the New Orleans Saints will not trade Drew Brees.

Despite recent speculation that the Pro Bowl quarterback might be on the trade block after the New Orleans Saints dealt his favorite target, star tight end Jimmy Graham, to the Seattle Seahawks, the Saints aren’t even considering life after Brees.

“Anybody who thinks we’re trading Drew Brees, that’s just not true,” Saints general manager Mickey Loomis told USA TODAY Sports on Monday before the owners meetings began.

Granted, it’s not as if Loomis would come out and say he’s trying to trade his franchise quarterback, but the fact he flat out denied such seems to point towards the Saints keeping Drew Brees. Of course, despite Brees’ love of the Big Easy, you have to wonder how long he’ll want to play for the Saints if they struggle as he understandably wants to play for another Super Bowl before his career comes to a close.

Previously there had been chatter suggesting the Saints spoke with Jameis Winston and Brees could be on the move.
