NFL Rumors: Chargers Trade For Marcus Mariota ‘Real Possibility’

Marcus Mariota

Today the San Diego Chargers will fly to the University of Oregon where they’ll watch former Ducks quarterback Marcus Mariota in a private workout.

It’s a workout that has been talked about for weeks now, though with it actually taking place, the rumor mill is swirling and with good reason.

The Tennessee Titans, who currently own the No. 2 pick in the 2015 NFL Draft are said to be seeking a veteran quarterback and their coaching staff has strong ties with Philip Rivers, who allegedly doesn’t have any desire to re-sign with the Chargers if they do move away from San Diego.

Could a draft day trade be brewing? While nobody knows for sure, it’s very odd for an agent to schedule a workout for a team who picks No. 17 when his client is likely to be a top five selection.

Mariota is projected to be taken as early as the first or second pick on April 30 during the first round. The Chargers have the No. 17 choice. It would be highly unlikely for a camp to allow its client to work out for a team that far back without a strong sense a trade up is a real possibility.

The sense around the league, indeed, is that it is.

Any potential trade between the Chargers and Titans (or any other team, for that matter) would likely include far more pieces, but where there is smoke there is often fire and this is starting to burn at a more rapid pace.
