NFL Rumors: Chargers, Titans Near Philip Rivers Trade?

Philip Rivers

We’re still a few weeks away from the NFL Draft, but that doesn’t mean the rumor mill isn’t swirling with activity in the days leading up to pro football’s second biggest day.

There’s been a significant amount of attention placed on former FSU quarterback Jameis Winston and if he’ll go first overall, but the biggest news has regarding Marcus Mariota.

Multiple teams are said to have interest in the Oregon signal caller, including the San Diego Chargers who are rumored to be interested in trading for the quarterback. But how are they going to get him? By trading Philip Rivers and the No. 17 overall pick to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for the No. 2 pick, allowing them to draft Marcus Mariota.

A trade has been talked about for weeks, but now Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole reports it’s a deal that will likely go down at some point in the relatively near future.

“San Diego Chargers will ultimately make a deal with the Tennessee Titans for the number two overall pick. As part of that trade, the Chargers will send the number 17 overall pick and Philip Rivers, just as a start, for the number two pick.”

Rivers of course has strong ties to the Nashville area and has worked with much of the Tennessee Titans coaching staff before. It’s also said the Pro Bowl quarterback doesn’t think the Chargers are willing to commit to him long-term which is why he’s been reluctant to agree to playing in Los Angeles, if the Chargers were to move.
