NFL Rumors: Jets Attempted Kirk Cousins Trade

While Ryan Fitzpatrick will make the start under center for the New York Jets in Week 1, it appears as if the front office had other intentions after Geno Smith had his jaw broken.

That’s because the Jets attempted to trade for Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins, this according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.

Cousins, of course, is now the Redskins starter after Robert Griffin III struggled during the preseason and was demoted to safety duty during practice recently.

Sadly for the Jets, the interest in a Kirk Cousins trade was all one-sided as the Redskins allegedly had no interest in such a deal and trade talks were minimal at best because of it.

You have to think the Jets (understandably) looked elsewhere as well, though quarterback isn’t exactly an easy position to fill, especially with just a matter of weeks until the regular season was to kick off (at the time of Smith’s broken jaw).

For now, it’s Ryan Fitzpatrick’s job to lose.
