Jerry Jones: Cowboys Are Better Without DeMarco Murray

Dallas Cowboys

Sometimes, Dallas Cowboys fans probably wish Jerry Jones would just pay the bills and keep his inner thoughts to himself because he can sometimes put his foot in his mouth.

Case in point, today, when speaking about former running back DeMarco Murray who signed with the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this offseason.

The Cowboys, who previously suggested they wanted Murray back, simply wouldn’t give up the type of coin the Eagles were willing to part with (perhaps a smart decision). Now Jerry Jones says doing so would have hurt the franchise and avoiding such a contract was the only way to help the Dallas Cowboys in the long run.

“He’s an outstanding football player,’’ Jones said. “Under the right circumstances it would have been good for everybody for him to be here.

“On the other hand, our best chance of getting better was to make the decision we made.’’

Asked to explain, Jerry Jones gave the following explanation regarding the move:

“I was asked right after I bought the Cowboys why is it that you drive a five-year old Bronco with mud on it and yet you’re getting out of an airplane,’’ Jones recalled. “And I said you can’t have it all. The way you get an airplane is to drive the five-year old Bronco.”

Of course, if the Dallas Cowboys can somehow find a way to trade for Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings and don’t have to rely on Darren McFadden, all will be good in Big D.
