It was widely reported on Wednesday night that former San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews had signed a contract with the Philadelphia Eagles, just days after Frank Gore backed out of a deal with Chip Kelly and company. But now it’s Kelly and his crew who might be backing out on Ryan Mathews after rumors began to swirl that DeMarco Murray is very close to signing in the City of Brotherly Love.
Murray was being recruited on Twitter by the Eagles recently and reportedly is set to fly to meet with the franchise on Thursday where he could possibly sign with the Dallas Cowboys’ NFC East rival.

While Ryan Mathews is a very solid player and talented running back, he’s not in the same category as DeMarco Murray. Of course, Murray will come with a much higher price tag, a bit odd considering the Eagles recently parted ways with LeSean McCoy for ‘salary cap purpose’. Still, the Philadelphia Eagles signing DeMarco Murray would be a huge move, especially as it hurts the Dallas Cowboys as well.
