Fresh off breaking the Dallas Cowboys’ single season rushing record, previously held by Emmitt Smith, one would assume Jerry Jones would break the bank for running back DeMarco Murray.
But that might not be the case, at least not according to beat writer Bryan Broaddus who doesn’t believe the Dallas Cowboys’ starting running back for the 2015 season is currently on the roster.
Asked on Twitter about the Cowboys’ backfield situation, Broaddus gave the following response:
“@naranjo_steven: @BryanBroaddus do you think the starting RB for next season is on the roster now?” No.

Possibly just as important as the insinuation that DeMarco Murray won’t be back is the fact that Broaddus also appears to believe the job won’t be handed to Joseph Randle or Lance Dunbar if DeMarco Murray does indeed depart for greener pastures.
On one hand, it’s difficult to picture the Dallas Cowboys and Jerry Jones letting their franchise running back walk in free agency. Though on the other hand, we’ve routinely seen investing in running backs as a questionable decision and one that could seriously hamper Dallas considering their already tight salary cap situation.
For now it appears to be nothing more than an educated opinion on the part of Broaddus, though with a strong draft class and players like Adrian Peterson available, it certainly seems plausible.
