Dallas Cowboys, Jason Garrett Near Five-Year Contract

A day after the Dallas Cowboys season came to an end, owner and general manager Jerry Jones stated there would be changes for the franchise.

What that means for free agent running back DeMarco Murray is unknown, though Jones did specify that his top priority was to bring back head coach Jason Garrett.

Such appears near completion as according to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, Garrett and the Cowboys are nearing a five-year contract extension.

It’s not known what type of coin Garrett will bring in with the proposed deal, but it’s safe to assume he’ll be one of the higher paid coaches in the NFL.

Thanks to a 12-4 season which included an NFC East title, Jason Garrett has amassed a 42-32 record as Dallas Cowboys head coach though some might scoff at a five-year deal. Of course, such a contract could be ripe with buyout clauses so it’s difficult to judge the deal without getting the full report.

Still, Jerry Jones was clear that he wanted Jason Garrett to return and appears more than willing to commit to his head coach long term.

Update: Garrett’s contract is expected to be worth $30 million dollars.
