Cowboys Interested In Mark Ingram, Ryan Mathews, Justin Forsett?

Dallas Cowboys

Before the NFL season ended, it was expected by many that DeMarco Murray would not likely return to the Dallas Cowboys. That’s not to say Jerry Jones and company didn’t want him back, but last seasons leading rusher is set to cash in and the Cowboys have salary cap issues – not to mention the need to re-sign Pro Bowl wide receiver Dez Bryant.

Add in that running back is somewhat of a disposable position in professional football and you can see why the Cowboys would potentially let DeMarco Murray walk in free agency. If that is to happen, multiple players are expected to draw interest from Dallas including Mark Ingram, Ryan Mathews and possibly Justin Forsett.

Per Dallas News:

Jerry Jones spoke so highly of Lance Dunbar at the scouting combine that I believe the restricted free agent will be back in 2015. Dunbar is best outside in space. Without Murray, the Cowboys would likely be targeting a physical runner. Ingram would fill that void. The 25-year-old former first-round pick is coming off his best season, rushing for 964 yards and nine touchdowns for the Saints in 2014. Jason Garrett is good friends with Nick Saban. I can’t imagine Saban would give anything but a ringing endorsement for Alabama’s only Heisman Trophy winner.

Keep in mind, all things considered, the Dallas Cowboys preference would be to bring DeMarco Murray back. However, that appears to be unlikely at this point as it’s very possible Murray will be given a contract too rich for the Cowboys’ blood.
