Cowboys Could Draft Melvin Gordon Over Adrian Peterson Trade?

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys need a running back, this we all know. That’s not a shot at the talent level of Darren McFadden, who the team signed away from the Oakland Raiders after DeMarco Murray departed in free agency, but the guy is a walking injury.

Speculation has suggested that Adrian Peterson, a Texas native, would like to play for the Dallas Cowboys and rumors hint the feeling is mutual on the part of Jerry Jones and company. But is it realistic? Not without some crafty finances, which seems to suggest Adrian Peterson playing for the Dallas Cowboys would be difficult.

It’s not impossible, which is why the rumor will not die, but Rotoworld believes the Cowboys could draft Melvin Gordon and be better suited than an Adrian Peterson trade.

It seems like a perfect fit, until you look at the Cowboys financial situation. Only the wildly mismanaged Saints have less cap space than Dallas. Even if the Cowboys cut Brandon Carr, Tony Romo restructures his deal and Dez Bryant agrees to a team-friendly extension (which will never happen), finding enough cap room for Peterson would still be a challenge. It may be safer for Dallas to simply grab Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon at the end of the first round.

It’s a rather safe bet to assume the Cowboys will take a running back in the first round (barring an Adrian Peterson trade) and there aren’t many better than Melvin Gordon.

But of course, he doesn’t come with the glitz and glamor of an Adrian Peterson either.
