Chargers ‘Serious’ About Marcus Maroita Draft Trade

Marcus Mariota

With rumors swirling that Philip Rivers could be playing his last season for the San Diego Chargers, the Bolts could be on the lookout for a new quarterback. Most probably wouldn’t have assumed that to be Oregon signal caller Marcus Mariota, but according to the Union Tribune, the Chargers are ‘serious’ about their pursuit of Mariota.

In fact, San Diego has already scheduled a private workout with Mariota next month, which seems to suggest they’re not playing around with the idea of acquiring the quarterback.

Only problem? Marcus Mariota isn’t going to slip to the San Diego Chargers’ current No. 17 pick, meaning they’d need to trade up to draft Mariota (or complete a deal once the 2015 NFL Draft concludes).

Numerous people in and around the league have speculated that the team could be serious about acquiring Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota, whom they are scheduled to work out next month. While there are plausible explanations for investigating a first-round QB to that extent without intending to acquire him, Mariota is expected to be gone well before the Chargers pick at No. 17.

Of course, the Chargers will be just one of many teams attempting to move to draft Marcus Mariota, so they’ll have no shortage of competition for his services. Still, it would be an interesting pairing.
