It’s been a rough few weeks for the San Francisco 49ers since parting ways with former head coach Jim Harbaugh.
On Thursday the team introduced new head coach Jim Tomsula (you can learn more about him here) but was that their initial choice? Not according to Greg Papa who says he heard the 49ers had verbally agreed to name Adam Gase (previously of the Denver Broncos) their head coach but there was a change of heart at the last minute.
Damn Greg Papa said he heard from NFL sources that the #49ers had a verbal agreement to make Adam Gase the HC & backed out last minute

While Papa is no Adam Schefter, he is plugged in when it comes to Bay Area sports news and hosts multiple shows on Comcast Sports Bay Area. That said, it seems rather unprofessional on both the San Francisco 49ers and/or Adam Gase to have an agreement only for one of them to decide against such in the final moments.
Middlekauff’s tweet citing Papa seems to suggest it was the 49ers who had the change of heart, though given what we’ve seen from their front office in recent months it’s not exactly shocking if something like this did actually go down.
