49ers Plan ‘Significant Change’ For Colin Kaepernick

Colin Kaepernick

When the San Francisco 49ers take the field during the 2015 regular season, they’re going to look at lot different and not just from a personnel standpoint.

That’s the word from the Sacramento Bee who says the 49ers front office is planning on ‘significant changes’ for the offense next season, especially quarterback Colin Kaepernick who they want to see running far more often.

A significant change in 2015 figures to be a return to the read-option. The degree to which it will be used is unknown, but coach Jim Tomsula and CEO Jed York have mentioned in recent interviews that the 49ers will take better advantage of Colin Kaepernick’s legs.

There was a sense inside the front office that San Francisco’s offense was too clunky in recent years, that it had too many moving parts that bogged it down.

Both San Francisco and Colin Kaepernick were very successful when they ran a more open offense which allowed the quarterback to run in space, as opposed to last season where he was running to avoid sacks.

It may take some time to implement and achieve success with, especially with a new coaching staff, but it seems to be a good decision on the part of the 49ers who at times looked offensively incompetent last season.
