Steve Nash: Mavs Would Have Won More Championships With Me

Steve Nash

For six seasons, Steve Nash dazzled Dallas Mavericks fans as one of the best point guards in the NBA. But in a rather odd move, Nash was allowed to move on leaving Dirk Nowitzki behind.

The duo never did win an NBA Championship together, though Nowitzki was able to do so without Nash a few years after he signed as a free agent with the Phoenix Suns.

But would the Mavs have more rings if Steve Nash had stayed with the Dallas Mavericks? The two-time NBA MVP thinks so.

“I think yeah we would have won maybe more than one championship if we would have stayed together,” he told HuffPost Live’s Marc Lamont Hill on Tuesday. “You know, Mark’s put incredible resources into that team. Energy, passion, ideas.”

“I think I played my best basketball from that point on,” he added. “Obviously Dirk was unbelievable and won a championship there, and I think it could have been something great, but I don’t spend much time thinking about it. But the arrogant cocky part of me is like, ‘Yeah, would would have won.’”

While the Phoenix Suns style of play did help aid Nash play so well, it’s hard to think he and Dirk Nowitzki wouldn’t have been able to find themselves in position to one at least one more ring at minimum.
