Shawn Marion Plans To Retire After Cavs Season

Shawn Marion

It’s been a wonderful career for the man known as “The Matrix”, but Father Time catches up with every player and Shawn Marion is no longer the talent he once was. Given that, the former Phoenix Suns star says he will retire after the Cleveland Cavaliers season comes to an end.

When Shawn Marion headed to the Cleveland bench late in last week’s game at US Airways Center, “The Matrix” was saying goodbye to Phoenix.

Marion said he plans to retire after this season with Cleveland, ending a 15-year NBA career that was mostly spent as a star with the Suns.

A 15-year veteran out of UNLV, Marion came into the league looking rather unorthodox, especially with one of the ugliest jump shots we had ever seen. Yet, he made due and his tenacious effort and jump out of the gym ability made him a force on the defensive side of the floor.

The former NBA All-Star says he still has plenty left in the tank and believes he could play another three years if he so inclined, though wants to become a better father and be home for his young boy.

“I wanted to go out on my terms,” Marion said. “The biggest thing is having a son. I got attached to him. Seeing him periodically is hard. Watching him grow up on pictures and videos is hard.”

Shawn Marion won’t be going into the Hall of Fame, but he’s certainly had a career worthy of Phoenix’s “Ring of Fire”.
