New Los Angeles Lakers Practice Facility Looks Impressive

When the Los Angeles Lakers do something, they do it in grand fashion. I mean, they are one of the most iconic franchises in all of sports despite their most recent down years.

So when they open their new headquarters in El Segundo, it looks like it’s going to be quite the impressive sight.

While construction on the new Los Angeles Lakers practice facility has yet to start, the first renderings of such were released on the heels of NBA free agency and the building looks quite promising.

Currently, the Lakers share the Toyota Sports Center with the LA Kings and the place kind of looks like a fancy high school gym. But the new Lakers practice facility looks like it’s going to be among the best in the NBA and will rival that of the Dallas Mavericks’ which is widely assumed to be the best in basketball.

The first floor exterior of the new HQ will recall “the pavement basketball courts of [players’] youths,” while the second floor is “inspired by the NBA’s Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy.” Inside, besides offices, there will also be locker rooms, a lounge, treatment rooms, and a central basketball courtyard, as well as a 750-seat “exhibition court” for the D-Fenders, the Lakers’ development league team (like the minor league, but in basketball).

The 120,000-square-foot, LEED-Gold-certified facility is scheduled to finish in the late spring of 2017.

You’ll even be able to see a massive Lakers logo on top of the building when you fly out of LAX.

I’m guessing at some point there will be a Kobe Bryant statue too, because, why not.

I've written on a lot of your favorite websites while I live in my mother's basement. If you only knew what a hard time I'm having holding these alligators down. Woo. | Twitter: @GuyHut | FB: @GuyHutSports
