NBA Trade Rumors: Blake Griffin For LaMarcus Aldridge?

LaMarcus Aldridge

In a matter of weeks, Portland Trail Blazers All-Star LaMarcus Aldridge will become a free agent.

There have been questions surrounding his potential return and some, including his teammates, are said to believe that there’s a strong chance the Texas native could leave in free agency.

NBA trade rumors have been swirling in the time sense and Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports, who’s no stranger to breaking big basketball news, suggested there’s a slight possibility a Blake Griffin for LaMarcus Aldridge trade could be possible.

He goes on to suggest the suggestion is a rumor – on more than one occasion – but doesn’t completely dismiss the idea either.

This is a rumor. Let me say that three times. This is a rumor. This a rumor. This is a rumor.

Blake Griffin.

Obviously, there’s a connection there with the GM. And you wonder, if LaMarcus is interested in the Clippers, playing with Chris Paul. Could Neil Olshey get his old superstar with the Clippers in Portland?

I think you get to a point where – Neil is smart. You’ve got to have a come-to-Jesus meeting with LaMarcus and say, “Hey, do you really want to be here or do you think you want to go. Because f you really want to go, help us – the same way Steve Nash helped the Suns. Don’t just walk away. Try to help out Portland in the process.”

It’s rather obvious why the Portland Trail Blazers would make such a trade but why would the Los Angeles Clippers? Blake Griffin is under contract, is younger, will be paid less and some might say a better basketball player.

Of course, Griffin alongside Damien Lillard would be something to see but he’s already playing with Chris Paul.

Such a trade would also need the approval of Aldridge, who most likely wants to play closer to home with the San Antonio Spurs or Dallas Mavericks, if he was to leave the Blazers in free agency.

In other words – it’s not happening.
