While it’s been suggested that Amar’e Stoudemire could possibly ask the New York Knicks for a buyout after the NBA’s trade deadline break, the power forward suggested that’s still up in the air and he would take the break to figure things out. Of course, if the Knicks decide they’d like to part ways (which is very possible), the veteran could decide it’s time to jump ship to a contender.
But who would be interested in the oft-injured, former All-Star? Might he find a home in Big D? Perhaps as according to a Tim MacMahon and Marc Stein of ESPN.com the Mavs are favorites to sign Amare Stoudemire if he becomes available.
Stoudemire made it clear in his public comments that he’s not yet sure if he wants to seek a buyout from the Knicks to join a contender for the stretch run, but sources told ESPN.com that Dallas has quickly emerged as a prime landing spot if he becomes a free agent.
In addition to Amar’e Stoudemire, the Dallas Mavericks have also been linked to Jermaine O’Neal (a current free agent recovering from injury) though it’s not known if the Mavs would have interest in both players or just one of the two.
