NBA Rumors: Lakers, Rockets Seeking Ty Lawson Trade

Ty Lawson

Both the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets could use a talented point guard, but Ty Lawson? The man, who for the second time this year, was busted for a DUI?

That’s the word from Sports Illustrated who notes that Ty Lawson is generating trade interest and the Denver Nuggets are more than willing to listen to the NBA rumors.

So might Kobe Bryant or James Harden have a new teammate?

Despite a second DUI arrest in the last six months, embattled Denver Nuggets guard Ty Lawson is generating interest on the trade market, NBA sources told SI.com. Houston, Detroit and the L.A. Lakers are among the teams that have expressed interest in Lawson recently, and there remains a strong possibility the Nuggets could unload Lawson before training camp.

Lawson, 27, was arrested in Los Angeles on Tuesday after police pulled him over for speeding on the Hollywood Freeway. Last January, Lawson was arrested in Denver on suspicion of driving under the influence. He is due to appear in a Denver court on Friday for a hearing in connection with the January arrest.

Not only does Ty Lawson come with a rather hefty set of baggage, the former North Carolina Tar Heel also comes with a albatross of a salary. Of course, that might not look so bad next season assuming the NBA salary cap rises up to $90 million.

Regardless, with the baggage and price tag, perhaps the Lakers, Rockets, Pistons or another NBA team could find themselves an All-Star caliber point guard for cheap.
