NBA Rumors: Lakers, Kings Working On DeMarcus Cousins Trade

DeMarcus Cousins

Although DeMarcus Cousins spoke publicly for the first time since the trade rumors broke and suggested he wants to remain with the Sacramento Kings, he might not get his wish.

That’s the word according to Yahoo Sports who says the Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings have exchanged the framework of a potential DeMarcus Cousins trade.

Earlier today it was reported that DeMarcus Cousins wouldn’t mind a trade to the Lakers, though it was Cousins himself who tweeted that he wants to stay with the Kings.

With the NBA Draft in less than a day, both sides would need to rush to get a deal completed as it’s been reported the Lakers were offering the Kings a trade package including at least the No. 2 overall pick along with Julius Randle and possibly another asset.

Such a deal would allow the Kings to expedite a rebuild while giving Kobe Bryant‘s Lakers a true franchise big man.

As of right now, no DeMarcus Cousins trade appears imminent but it certainly sounds like the two sides have put forth serious effort into a potential trade.

Update:

Kings vice president of basketball operations Vlade Divac has pursued a possible deal that would include a bevvy of assets, including the Lakers’ No. 2 pick in Thursday’s NBA draft, rookies Julius Randle and Jordan Clarkson and other draft assets, league sources told Yahoo Sports. Sacramento also would want to unload the remainder of forward Carl Landry‘s two years, $13.5 million contract, league sources said.
