The Cleveland Cavaliers, behind LeBron James, dusted off the inferior Boston Celtics in their first round NBA Playoffs matchup on Sunday afternoon, sweeping Beantown into the offseason.
But it might be the Celtics who have the last laugh.
That’s because Yahoo Sports reports not only are the Boston Celtics interested in signing Kevin Love come free agency, but the former UCLA star has a mutual desire to sign with the Celtics.
While most have focused on Love potentially signing with the Los Angeles Lakers or returning to the Cavs, few have ever brought up the idea of the Boston Celtics though it appears to be a rumor with legs.
For as much as Kevin Love has publicly resisted the discussion of free agency this season, it has been on his mind. He has never been completely comfortable in Cleveland, with his role, nor his connection to those around him. Throughout the year, league sources say, one destination grew in possibility as his exit strategy: The Boston Celtics.
Per Yahoo, Kevin Love’s willingness to play for the Boston Celtics doesn’t mean he’s completely vacated the idea of signing with his hometown Los Angeles Lakers, but rather throws another wrench into an already complicated scenario.
For now, Love is a Cav, but for how much longer remains to be seen.
