NBA Rumors: Jimmy Butler Wants To Sign With Lakers?

Jimmy Butler

It appears as if the Los Angeles Clippers might not be the only Southern California basketball team making moves as the Los Angeles Lakers might have their eyes on Chicago Bulls star Jimmy Butler.

Of course, Butler is a restricted free agent, but according to recent NBA rumors the swingman is looking to sign a short term deal so he can become an unrestricted free agent when NBA salaries increase.

That is one reason Jimmy Butler is looking to sign a short offer sheet with the LA Lakers.

Chicago Bulls restricted free-agent guard Jimmy Butler has plans to pursue shorter-term offer sheets this summer, resisting the Bulls’ initial plans to offer him a five-year, maximum contract extension, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Butler’s intrigue with signing a potential Los Angeles Lakers offer sheet has increased, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Butler has preliminary plans to pursue meetings with several teams once free agency starts in July, sources said.

There’s really no reason for the Chicago Bulls to allow Jimmy Butler to walk in free agency, though, the fear would be that Butler signs a short offer sheet with a team like the Lakers and then departs when he becomes an unrestricted free agent.

For now, it appears to be a fluid situation.
