NBA Rumors: Celtics To Attempt DeMarcus Cousins Trade

DeMarcus Cousins

Yesterday, Boston Celtics general manager and president Danny Ainge suggested the basketball team was going to shoot for the stars this offseason, literally, as he wants to inject an All-Star player or two on his roster.

Most would assume he’ll dive into the free agent pool and try to land a big name like LaMarcus Aldridge, Kevin Love or Marc Gasol. But perhaps it’s somebody else who Ainge and the Celtics have on their radar.

According to ESPN, the Celtics will attempt to acquire DeMarcus Cousins in a trade with the Sacramento Kings during the NBA offseason.

Will they open their war chest of future draft picks to try to pry DeMarcus Cousins away from Sacramento via trade? The early word out there is: Bank on it.

Will they be in the mix for pretty much any name player who unexpectedly comes available in coming months?

Bank on that, too.

The problem for the Celtics regarding a DeMarcus Cousins trade? The Sacramento Kings don’t really have much reason to let him go, especially for the type of return package the Celtics can offer.

Boston’s interest in the former Kentucky big man has been well known, but the Kings have shown little desire to trade their All-Star big man and it’s doubtful the Celtics would have enough to offer alone in a DeMarcus Cousins trade scenario, so a third or potentially fourth team may need to be added into the mix.
