NBA Finals: LeBron James Almost Won Finals MVP

LeBron James

While Andre Iguodala came away as the NBA Finals MVP, it was actually a rather close race.

That’s because LeBron James finished with four of the 11 votes while Iggy finished with the remaining 7. Oddly enough, there wasn’t a single vote for players like Stephen Curry or even Matthew Dellavedova, though in fairness he was more a flavor of the week candidate.

Regardless, had LeBron James been named MVP of the 2015 NBA Finals he would have become the second player ever to win the Finals MVP in losing fashion as only Jerry West, as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers was the only player to do so.

For what it’s worth, James suggested he wouldn’t have been overly thrilled winning the NBA Finals MVP in a losing fashion because he and the Cavs wouldn’t have accomplished what they wanted and the individual award wouldn’t have been won in a celebratory fashion.

From a numbers standpoint, it’s pretty easy to say LeBron James was worthy of such an award as he put the Cavs on his back. Though many traditionalists believe the NBA Finals MVP should come from the winning team, which is exactly what happened with Andre Iguodala who had a career series in the NBA Finals.
