Rumors: Miami Heat Offer Dwyane Wade Lowball Contract

Dwyane Wade

Earlier today it was revealed the Miami Heat were attempting to use Dwyane Wade, or more accurately, his potential contract to put themselves in position to potentially sign Kevin Durant if he is to leave the Oklahoma City Thunder in NBA free agency.

Pat Riley and the Heat front office want Wade to opt into his contract allowing them to have enough financial flexibility when/if Durant hits the open market. Such would allow them to not only keep Wade and sign Durant, but also keep talent like Hassan Whiteside, Goran Dragic and more.

That could explain why they low-balled Dwyane Wade and offered him a contract which would pay him under $10 million dollars per season.

Yes, this is the same basketball player who turned down a contract that would have paid him over $20 million dollars this season so the Heat could be players in free agency.

There probably isn’t a player in the NBA who’s sacrificed more from a financial standpoint than Wade has for the Miami Heat, so it’s a little risky for them to be doing this given the circumstances.

It seems very odd to think Dwyane Wade would ever leave the Miami Heat, but, with an offer like that….
