NBA Rumors: Mavs Interested Larry Sanders

Larry Sanders

The Mavs are interested in Larry Sanders.

If you’re a veteran without a contract, the Dallas Mavericks are interested in signing you.

We’ve already seen the Mavs linked to Jermaine O’Neal before he cut his comeback short. There has been some small interest in Ray Allen and they all but set to sign Amar’e Stoudemire. Now it appears as if the Mavs are interested in signing Larry Sanders who was bought out by the Milwaukee Bucks today.

The Mavericks wanted to sign 36-year-old big man Jermaine O’Neal to address their desire for a rebounder and defensive presence to come off their bench.

So of course they have some interest in a freakishly athletic 26-year-old center who is available only two seasons removed from being a legitimate Defensive Player of the Year candidate.

But the Mavs’ interest in Larry Sanders, based on conversations with team sources, is best described as cautious and complicated.

The Dallas Mavericks aren’t the only team interested in signing Larry Sanders as a good number of NBA teams likely are contemplating the idea as well, including the Cleveland Cavaliers who are said to be lurking.

Assuming Sanders comes cheaply, there’s little reason as to why a team shouldn’t take a chance on the power forward, who when he has his head on straight is one hell of a basketball player.
