Mavericks Could Sue Clippers Over DeAndre Jordan Deal

As we speak, there’s no indication that such could actually take place, but if Mark Cuban wants to prosecute the Los Angeles Clippers over signing DeAndre Jordan – he could do it. That’s the word from TMZ Sports who reports Mark Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks have legal right to take the LA Clippers to court after DeAndre Jordan pulled back on his verbal/handshake deal with the Mavs.

The war over DeAndre Jordan may be FAR from be over — because the Dallas Mavericks may have a solid legal case against the Clippers for stealing DeAndre out from under them … well placed sources tell TMZ Sports.

We’re told … Steve Ballmer may have crossed the line by getting Jordan into a room with other Clippers players AFTER Jordan made a handshake deal with Mark Cuban and the Mavericks.

Our sources say … Cuban has a solid argument that he JUSTIFIABLY relied on his handshake deal — and passed over other free agents who could’ve filled the center position.

In legalese, it’s called promissory estoppel … translation, detrimental reliance.

Such would seem to be rather time consuming, expensive and probably wouldn’t get much done for the Mavs who’ve already lost out on their prized free agent big man. Still, we also wouldn’t totally put it past Cubes either if a lawyer does believe he actually has a basis to win a case against the Clippers.
