Mark Cuban: DeAndre Jordan Can Be Like Shaq For Mavericks

I like Mark Cuban. I really do. I think the Dallas Mavericks owner is good for the NBA. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t get a little off his rocker every now and that.

Case in point, his most recent suggestion that DeAndre Jordan can be a Shaq-like player for the Mavericks. Yes, DeAndre Jordan, who can’t really do much offensively without a lob at the basket.

Look, I think the signing of Jordan was a coup for the Mavs and he’ll be a fantastic addition for Dallas on both sides of the ball, but there’s really not much likelihood that DeAndre Jordan will have any type of Shaq type impact in Big D.

We see him as ‘Shaq-like’ but never having been given the opportunity, Cuban told the radio show. “We told him if he came to the Mavs, he would be a focal point. He would grow into being a franchise player. We told him that you’e capable of being a 20-20 guy. You’re just not being given the opportunity.

From a numbers standpoint, you give an NBA player enough shots and they can put up points. Perhaps they won’t be the most effective, but there’s no doubt a 9th man on an NBA bench can score 20 if you give him 35 shots.

Of course, letting DeAndre Jordan score 20 points a night probably isn’t what’s going to work best for Dirk Nowitzki‘s Mavs, so maybe Cuban wants to simmer down on his projections.
