Sure, the Los Angeles Lakers stink and have for a few seasons now. No, the light at the end of the tunnel isn’t getting any brighter. But you can’t take away history and the Lakers have been one of the most successful franchises in professional sports, let alone the NBA.
Given that, it’s not exactly shocking that they’re still America’s favorite basketball team. Though, how much of a favorite they are could be a bit of news.
A recent Twitter poll showed which NBA teams are most followed in particular areas of the country and the Lakers came away as the clear winner, blowing just about every other opponent out of the water.
Seriously, look at that above map – it’s almost entirely purple outside of small blotches of colors.
Understandably much of the East Coast is centralized to small segments considering the teams are so bunched together, though areas of the United States that only have one team (Portland, Denver, Utah) have vast areas where their fan base supports them.
Still, even with those big chunks, nobody could touch Kobe Bryant‘s Los Angeles Lakers who overwhelmingly destroyed their opposition. Shockingly, that might be the first time they’ve done so all season.
