Sure, LeBron James does a lot of amazing things on the basketball court, but his biggest moment might have come off it – at least for a former teammate.
That’s the word from Delonte West, who played alongside James during his first stint with the Cavs.
As you’ll recall, West was facing some extremely devastating charges after he was alleged to be carrying some serious weapons when he was pulled over by police. Had he been convicted, he would have faced up to nine-years in prison.
West says he was down and own (understandably) when going through the process, but there was one guy always by his side – LeBron James.
“He sat with me in the locker room for like an hour and was rapping it up with me by giving me words of encouragement,” West said. “Keep in mind, practice was still going on. He left practice and sat with me for a while, just keeping me company. He later walked me down the stairs and said, ‘D, I don’t know where you’re going or what you’re about to do, but I’ll be right here when you get back.’
“My spirits were so high at that point. I don’t know what would have happened had I left in the condition I was in prior. It’s a testament to the type of person he is.”
The former Cavs basketball player went on to suggest he wasn’t sure what would have happened had LeBron James not been around to listen and comfort him.
