Might Kobe Bryant have a new teammate before February’s trade deadline passes? If the Los Angeles Lakers have their way, he will as they’ve reportedly been hitting the phone lines hard in effort to bring in some additional talent.
Before Dion Waiters was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder by the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Lakers were said to have made trade inquisitions for the young guard though that’s not the only player they have their eyes set on.
According to Ramona Shelburne, the Los Angeles Lakers have also made trade calls to the Detroit Pistons regarding Greg Monroe and Brandon Jennings.
As for Lakers, they have been very active since 12/15. Made calls on Waiters, Jennings, Monroe. Asst GM Glen Carraro is working the phones.

Depending on who you believe, both Greg Monroe and Brandon Jennings were said to be available for the right price earlier in the season. However, given how well the Detroit Pistons have played since they released Josh Smith, you have to assume the Pistons front office isn’t exactly eager to make a move. Add in the lack of assets currently held by the Lakers and finding a middle ground seems unlikely, though it’s clear Los Angeles’ front office is looking to make some needed roster changes.
