Kobe Bryant Talks Lakers Retirement: ‘I’m Not Benjamin Button’

Kobe Bryant

As a basketball fan, you hate to think of the day that Kobe Bryant finally hangs up the sneakers.

Sure, we all know there is a Kobe Bryant retirement on the horizon. Heck, the Lakers superstar has admitted so. Yet, people don’t want to hear it and want to believe that Kobe Bryant will continue to play, despite all of his injuries.

For what it’s worth, Bryant isn’t completely sure of what’s to come after this upcoming Lakers season but did say he’s ‘not Benjamin Button’ when asked about the looming retirement.

“You gotta retire sometime,” he said. “I’m not Benjamin Button, man.”

“I’ll be ready to take on that challenge and try to show athletes, listen, we are more than this. I think that’s the challenge that I’m ready to take on too. It’s like, we can do more than play basketball. We can do more than simply sit here and be puppets for brands and for an industry and this, that and the other. We can build our own s–t. When that time comes, I’ll be ready to do that.”

Love or hate him, the day Kobe Bryant retires will be a sad day not only for the Lakers, but NBA and basketball fans alike.
