Knicks Rumors: New York To Pass On Big Name Free Agents?

New York Knicks

With a handful of salary coming off the books at season end, the New York Knicks are going to  have plenty of cash at their disposal. But how are they going to use it? There are plenty of talented free agents set to become available, but might the Knicks opt to fill multiple holes and not splurge on one key free agent?

That’s the belief of Jesse Blancarte who expects the New York Knicks to look at signing a couple “b-level” free agents.

All of this depends on circumstances we can’t predict yet, but my guess would be that Phil Jackson tries to spread the money around to some second-tier free agents to structure a well-rounded roster, rather than splurging on one player.

Considering Carmelo Anthony is eating up a hefty portion of New York’s cap space (even if he did take a discount), that doesn’t leave much room for any additional talent if they were to sign a player to a max-level deal. If they were to go for some of the solid, though non-max level free agents it’s possible they could attempt to sign two borderline All-Star level talents which would fill multiple holes and make the Knicks a better overall “team”. Though in a city hungry for basketball stardom, it’s going to be tough to sell such to fans.
