Kevin Love Plans To Stay With Cleveland Cavaliers

Kevin Love

Just days ago a report surfaced suggesting Kevin Love was not exactly happy with the Cleveland Cavaliers slow start to the season and would likely test free agency at season end.

That appears unlikely to happen as Love himself has confirmed that he does indeed intend to opt in to his contract with the Cavaliers, meaning he will not be a free agent at season end.

“I think that we will figure it out here, so I don’t plan on opting out or any of that,” Love told NEOMG. “I plan on being here. As far as leaving my options open, I mean sure, it’s always there. At the end of the day, it’s always good to have something but no, I plan on being here.”

It does appear that Kevin Love left a slight opening in the window in case he changes his mind, though it’s likely that would only happen if LeBron James decided to opt out of his contract which seems doubtful.

Love’s option is worth a hefty $16.7 million and would keep him under the Cleveland Cavaliers’ control through the 2015-16 season.

In addition to playing alongside James for another season, opting in to his contract will also allow him to cash in on the NBA’s new television deal which is expected to elevate the salary cap and in turn expand the maximum salary.
