Kevin Durant Says He Was Loyal To Oklahoma City Thunder

Kevin Durant says he was loyal to the OKC Thunder.

I’ve never understood why players like Kevin Durant, who have a pending free agency ahead, continue to speak about it. Sure, they come off as mild douches if they opt to decline speaking about free agency but it would save them a ton of grief.

Case in point, Kevin Durant’s recent comments when he was asked about leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder when his contract expires after the 2016 season.

He could have ignored it or simply given a politically correct answer but Kevin Durant instead suggested that he was loyal. Yes, was.

“I was loyal,” said Durant. “If it comes down to that, I mean: I was. My deal’s up in 2016. I’ll have been here nine years. I could have easily wanted out. I could have easily not signed the extension after my rookie contract. I could have not played as hard every night. But people tend to forget.”

Perhaps it was nothing more than the slip of the tongue on the part of Kevin Durant, though, that speaks to how every word echoed by NBA stars (and other professional athletes) are magnified to the highest of degrees.

Also, Durant went on to suggest that he’s a bit disappointed with how things have went this season and the Thunder aren’t the same team they’ve been in years past.
