Kevin Durant thinks the ‘You the real MVP’ memes are dumb.
It appears Kevin Durant is in no joking mood today. The Oklahoma City Thunder star and reigning NBA MVP already lashed out about his potential free agency and now the All-Star suggested the internet phenomenon of ‘You the real MVP’ memes are stupid.
Durant, of course, during his MVP speech stated ‘you the real MVP’ to his mother which was a beloved emotion from many who then quickly turned it around into an internet catch phrase.
That didn’t sit well with the Thunder star though who told GQ magazine that he didn’t appreciate people doing that.
“I was like, man, that was a real emotional moment for me, and you making a joke about it! Like: Damn. Y’all don’t really believe in shit. You don’t have no morals or nothing. You don’t care about nothing but just making fun.
“I was serious as hell saying that, you know what I’m saying?”
Considering Durant was attempting to give his mother some props, I can understand why he might have felt a little slighted but people were just having fun with the quote. It wasn’t a dig at Kevin Durant or his family, but it’s easy to see both sides or the argument here.
