Greg Monroe Will Consider Re-Signing With Pistons

Greg Monroe

This past offseason, it appeared the relationship between Greg Monroe and the Detroit Pistons was all but over. The former Georgetown star had no desire to re-sign in Motown and the Pistons weren’t going to pony up the cash Monroe desired.

It lead to a standoff between the two with Greg Monroe eventually declining the Pistons contract offer and signing a one-year qualifying deal which makes him an unrestricted free agent once the current 2014-15 season comes to an end.

Many expected Greg Monroe to quickly depart Detroit in free agency when that time comes, though his agent says the big man will more than consider re-signing with the Pistons.

Greg Monroe’s agent said Saturday that the player would consider re-signing with the Detroit Pistons this summer despite taking uncommon measures last year to avoid doing just that and potentially speed his extrication from the team.

While such may be true, it also makes plenty of sense for Greg Monroe to give off the impression that he could re-sign with the Pistons as it will give him leverage in free agency.

In Detroit’s favor is the fact they do own Monroe’s Bird Rights and can offer him the most money and years in free agency, though as we’ve seen previously with the forward/center, money doesn’t appear to be everything.
