Goran Dragic Thinks Lakers Are ‘Perfect Fit’

Goran Dragic could still sign with the Los Angeles Lakers in NBA free agency.

Despite being traded to the Miami Heat on Thursday afternoon, Goran Dragic still has his eyes on the bright lights of Hollywood.

Yes, the point guard still wants to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers as he calls the Southern California basketball franchise a ‘perfect fit’.

A person familiar with Dragic’s thinking said he “loves the opportunity” to join the Lakers and sees them as a “perfect fit” when he becomes an unrestricted free agent this summer. But the Heat can sign Dragic a five-year deal worth up to $100 million, while other teams can offer up to a four-year deal worth $80 million.

Of course, as noted above, the Miami Heat will have Goran Dragic’s ‘Bird Rights’ and will be able to offer him a more lucrative contract than anybody else. That’s a problem for the Lakers, as Dragic would also be dealing with California tax rates by signing with Los Angeles.

Still, the veteran seems to be overly keen on the Lakers and will likely test the free agent waters when the time comes.

All that said, it’s the belief of Sporting News’ Sean Deveney that Goran Dragic, despite interest from the Los Angeles Lakers, will still likely re-sign with the Heat this offseason.
