DeAndre Jordan: No Plans To Sign One-Year Clippers Contract

DeAndre Jordan

Los Angeles Clippers star center DeAndre Jordan is set to become a free agent at season end. When such happens, he’s certain to cash in, no matter if he re-signs in the City of Angels or if he opts for a new team in free agency.

However, with the NBA’s salary cap expected to grow and a new CBA in the works for the 2016-17 season, there was speculation that DeAndre Jordan could opt to sign a one-year contract allowing him to back up the Brinks truck.

It’s not something the former Texas star plans to do however, as he told ESPN LA.

“I’m not going to be greedy and sign a one-year deal,” Jordan said. “Nah. I’m just focused on getting it over with and focusing on playing again. I’m just trying to win here.”

From a financial standpoint, taking a one-year deal and then signing a mega contract would be the best move. Of course, that doesn’t come without an injury risk and it seems as if Jordan would prefer to get his money right now, even if it’s considerably less than he could make by waiting an extra season.

The assumption is that DeAndre Jordan will return to the Clippers in free agency considering they own his Bird Rights and can pay the center the most money of any NBA team.
