Dallas Mavericks Rumors: Rajon Rondo Will Not Re-Sign?

Rajon Rondo

When the Dallas Mavericks traded for Rajon Rondo earlier this season, it was with the expectation that the All-Star point guard would be willing to sign a long-term extension.

And frankly, why wouldn’t he? With the Mavericks, he’d get to play on one of the best franchises in the NBA, alongside Dirk Nowitzki and enjoy the comforts of being a player on a team owned by Mark Cuban.

It doesn’t get much better than that, right? Well, if you’re Rajon Rondo, it apparently can because the former Boston Celtics talent is ready to leave in NBA free agency unless there is a head coaching change. That’s the word from Yahoo Sports who says Rondo does not want to play for the Dallas Mavericks if Rick Carlisle remains the head coach.

Carlisle banished him to the bench, choosing Raymond Felton over Rondo in the fourth quarter. Everything’s pushing Rondo closer to his inevitable free-agent fleeing to the Lakers this summer. As long as the coach is back, Rondo’s gone, sources told Yahoo Sports. The parting could be mutual.

So what’s next for Rajon Rondo if he does indeed depart the Mavs in free agency? Apparently the Los Angeles Lakers, a team which he was originally hoping to sign with this coming offseason.
