Boston Celtics GM Danny Ainge has said to expect a lot of movement before and after the NBA Draft. Perhaps it was a foreshadowing moment to the report that his Boston Celtics offered to trade Marcus Smart to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for a package which included the No. 3 pick in the 2015 NBA Draft along with Nerlens Noel.
Also coming the Sixers way would be at least one of the Celtics first round draft picks.
Sadly for Beantown, it doesn’t sound if the City of Brotherly Love was all that interested in the rather lopsided trade.
League executives also said the Celtics were trying to move up in the draft, using their two first-round picks and two second-round picks as bait.
The executives said the Celtics were looking to trade point guard Marcus Smart and the Nos. 16 and 28 picks in the first round to Philadelphia for center/forward Nerlens Noel and the No. 3 pick. But the 76ers, the executives said, weren’t interested.
While Marcus Smart is a very solid player, it’s questionable if he’s worth Nerlens Noel let alone the addition of the number three overall pick. Granted, it’s just a starting point but it’s easy to see why the Philadelphia 76ers weren’t interested in such a trade with the Boston Celtics.
