Cavs Traded Andrew Wiggins Because Of LeBron James’ Agent?

Andrew Wiggins

While most would assume the Cleveland Cavaliers traded Andrew Wiggins to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Kevin Love for basketball reasons, there might be more to the story than meets the eye.

That’s because Brian Windhorst of ESPN says the Cavs traded Wiggins because he didn’t sign with LeBron James‘ agent as many anticipated.

James’ agent, Rich Paul was expected to sign Andrew Wiggins when he left Kansas however the forward instead opted to sign with fellow power agent Bill Duffy. That might have been the straw that seemingly broke the back of Wiggins’ time with the Cavs as he wouldn’t have been traded had he picked Rich Paul.

Per RealGM:

Before Andrew Wiggins’ freshman season at Kansas began, Rich Paul was considered the favorite to become his agent.

Wiggins ultimately chose Bill Duffy with Roc Nation as the runner-up.

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reports Wiggins wouldn’t have been traded by the Cleveland Cavaliers if he had signed with Paul’s agency.

If that all sounds a little petty, that’s because it is. There are also three sides to every story and I’m sure each party involved has a different scenario, though leaving LeBron James’ agent on the table likely didn’t help Andrew Wiggins’ situation with the Cavs.
