It’s no secret that Allen Iverson wants back in the NBA. And if he had his own choice, it would be with the Philadelphia 76ers, the organization that drafted him and where A.I. stared as one of the greatest players the NBA has ever seen.
Iverson has been dropping hints for months that he wants the Sixers to hire him, but his requests have fallen on dear ears. Now it appears as if Iverson wants to make his requests very public as he believes the 76ers should hire him because he is a ‘basketball genius’.
“I may not know everything about physical talent or anything like that, but I have a sharp mind when it comes to that look, being able to look into somebody’s eyes to tell if they are going to be in the foxhole with you tonight or if they are not,” Iverson said Thursday night. “To me, I am a basketball genius and I really believe that, so at any capacity I could help this franchise, that is what I am going to do, whatever they ask me to do.”
There are a lot of terms I can think of to describe Allen Iverson when it comes to basketball, though I’m not sure genius would be among them. Don’t get me wrong, the guy could play at an absurdly elite level. But in regards to drafting and scouting talent? Working with the NBA salary cap? I think I might need to see Allen Iverson, possibly the best pound-for-pound basketball player of all time, make a few moves before anointing him in that way.
