Yankees Have Come Closest In Cole Hamels Trade

Cole Hamels

While much of the attention surrounding a Cole Hamels trade has been centered around the Boston Red Sox, it’s another American League East team who has reportedly come the closest to acquiring the Philadelphia Phillies ace.

Yes, the New York Yankees have been the team who’ve been having the most serious Cole Hamels trade talks with Philly, this according to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe.

According to one Phillies source, the Yankees have come the closest to landing Hamels, offering a package of prospects that at least has given the Phillies a baseline for future talks.

There hasn’t been any mention of what prospects the New York Yankees would be giving up in a potential Cole Hamels trade, though we do know the Boston Red Sox haven’t been willing to part with some of their top talent like Mookie Betts and Blake Swihart. Given that, it would be interesting to see what price point the Yankees would be willing to pay.

All that said, it doesn’t appear as if a Cole Hamels trade is imminent but rather the New York Yankees have presented the Phillies with the best offer/situation thus far.

No matter how you slice it, that has to have fans of the Bronx Bombers feeling good about their chances.
