After Alex Rodriguez was rebuffed by the New York Yankees (again) in his effort to have a ‘clear the air’ meeting, it appears as if the Bronx Bombers are finally going to take the embattled slugger up on his offer.
According to ESPN New York, A-Rod and Yankees general manager Brian Cashman are scheduled to meet prior to spring training in an effort to get on the same page.
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said management will meet with Alex Rodriguez in an attempt to clear the air before spring training.
“It cannot hurt,” Cashman told three reporters, including ESPN Deportes’ Marly Rivera, prior to the Connecticut Sports Foundation dinner Friday.
It’s clear something needed to be done as Alex Rodriguez still believes he’s the New York Yankees starting third baseman, despite the fact the team invested heavily into Chase Headley this offseason.
That’s not to say A-Rod won’t get his fair share of time at the hot corner or as a designated hitter, but it seems evident the Yankees prefer (understandably) to have Headley at third base more often than not thanks to his defense.
Rodriguez will need to prove himself before the Yankees are willing to commit to hefty playing time.
