Nationals’ Jayson Werth Sentenced To Five Days In Jail

Jayson Werth

When Jayson Werth comes to Spring Training for the Washington Nationals this season, he’ll have stories to tell from jail – that’s because the outfielder was sentenced to five days in the pokey after pleading guilty to reckless driving Thursday in Fairfax County General Circuit Court.

Werth, who hit a very respectable .295 last season with 16 home runs, was caught in July while driving his Porsche 105 mph in a 55 mph zone along a stretch of Interstate 495 in Northern Virginia.

He was originally expected to receive 10 days in jail but had the sentence reduced in half.

While many might assume that Jayson Werth will never serve a day in jail because of overcrowding (or simply sit in a cell for three hours), it does appear as if the Washington Nationals outfielder will indeed stay at a local jail for his entire five-day term.

It’s believed the 35-year-old will likely turn himself in quickly so he can avoid the distractions before Spring Training and the regular season begin.

It’s a bit of a silly story, but driving that recklessly is no laughing matter and Werth could have not only hurt himself but innocent people as well. Hopefully he’s learned his lesson and won’t make such a dumb mistake again.
