Toronto Blue Jays Interested In Everth Cabrera

Everth Cabrera

For years the San Diego Padres hoped shortstop Everth Cabrera would become a franchise building block. The shortstop has never hit much, though he did make an All-Star team and when healthy has proven to be a solid commodity on the defensive side of the ball along with elite speed on offense.

Of course he has proven himself to be a bit of a knucklehead after multiple issues with the law, though that hasn’t been enough to scare the Toronto Blue Jays away who are said to have interest in the shortstop (who can also play second base).

Everth Cabrera was non-tendered by the Padres back in December thanks to his on and off-field issues, though Toronto might be willing to take a chance on the speedster given the limited risk.

Cabrera won’t come with a high price tag, as previously stated and probably won’t command more than a one-year contract. Given that, he could be a solid addition for the Toronto Blue Jays if the two sides are able to agree on a deal.

Between he and Jose Reyes atop the Blue Jays lineup, they’d certainly give opposing pitchers and catchers fits on the base paths.
