With question marks surrounding Adam Wainwright and the St. Louis Cardinals starting pitching rotation, rumors have swirled suggesting the front office was contemplating signing Max Scherzer or even working on a trade for Cole Hamels or David Price.
All three arms make sense and fill an obvious need for the Cardinals, who have plenty of young talent to make a blockbuster move. But despite that, it’s not something they’re interested in according to general manager John Mozeliak who says the team is not currently in the market for starting pitching.
“At this point, we are not actively shopping,” Mozeliak asserts (really repeats) his starting pitching stance to media at Warmup #cardinals

Of course, we’ve all learned to take GM’s suggestions with a grain of salt and it’s not as if he’d come out and state they were in talks with any team or player, so you can’t always believe what somebody out of a front office says.
Despite that, it does appear as if Mozeliak is being relatively truthful in his comment and the St. Louis Cardinals aren’t actively looking to make a big starting pitcher splash. We’ve also seen how quickly such a sentiment can change depending on a variety of factors so despite the suggestion, you can’t help but keep an eye on St. Louis’ front office when it comes to big names like Cole Hamels or Max Scherzer, unlikely as they might be.
