Seattle Mariners sign Rickie Weeks to a one-year contract based on performance incentives.
The Seattle Mariners have been looking for infield depth for most of the offseason and it appears they’ve finally found some as they’ve signed Rickie Weeks to a one-year contract.
Weeks, a former short-lived star for the Milwaukee Brewers has fallen on hard times in recent seasons and looks little like the player he once was thanks to a lack of plate discipline and poor fielding skills.
Still, the Seattle Mariners saw something in the veteran and decided to bring him aboard.

As noted by Jim Bowden, Rickie Weeks does bring an ability to play a utility role, something that will benefit the Mariners greatly, especially if Rickie Weeks can channel his former offensive talents.
Ironically enough, last season did give some hope to such as Rickie Weeks did muster a solid .274 average along with eight home runs in just under 300 plate appearances.
The one-year contract is only worth $2 million dollars, so it’s not a risky investment and won’t hurt the Mariners long term, though given their increasingly deep pockets Rickie Weeks’ contract is nothing more than a drop in the bucket.
